2026-04-18 - Gossen Lunasix Exposure Meter

 

The Gossen Lunasix Exposure Meter, also known in North America as the Luna-Pro, is a handheld exposure meter from West Germany, celebrated for its extreme low-light sensitivity and rugged mechanical design. First introduced in 1961, it was Gossen's first meter to use a CdS (cadmium sulfide) cell instead of a selenium receptor, setting the standard for professional analog light meters for decades. 

Key Features:

  • Dual Light Ranges: A "see-saw" switch selects between high (bright) and low (dim) light ranges.
  • Measurement Modes:
    • Reflective: Sliding the white dome to the side measures light bouncing off the subject.
    • Incident: Sliding the white dome over the sensor measures light falling on the subject (usually pointed toward the camera).
  • Exposure Computer Dial: Once a numerical reading is taken from the needle, you align that number on the dial to see all available aperture and shutter speed combinations.
