The Vivitar Model 283 Auto Thyristor is a legendary electronic flash unit first introduced in 1972. Often called "The Workhorse," it became a staple for professional photojournalists and wedding photographers due to its reliability, high power, and extensive accessory system. It remained in production for nearly 30 years and sold over 3 million units in its first three years alone.

·        Auto Thyristor Technology: Allows for faster recycling times and efficient battery usage, with four colour-coded automatic modes (yellow, orange, blue, purple) for different distance ranges and depth-of-field control.

·        Versatility: Features a tilting head (0° to 90° for bounce flash)

·        Calculator Dial: An illuminated dial helps manually determine the correct aperture based on film speed and subject distance.

·        Power Source: Operates on four AA batteries housed in a removable holder, with options for external power packs.

·        System Flash: Compatible with various accessories, including a remote sensor and the VP-1 Varipower module for manual power control (1/1 to 1/64).
