Released by Sony in 1999, the Sony MVC-FD83 Digital Mavica Camera is a compact digital camera famous for saving images directly onto standard 3.5-inch floppy disks. It bypassed the need for complex computer cables or rare memory card readers during the early days of consumer digital photography by letting users pop the disk directly into a computer's floppy drive. It features a 0.9-megapixel CCD sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens, and recording capability of short 15-second MPEG videos.
Key Features:
- Sensor: 0.85 Megapixel (Effective) 1/3" CCD sensor.
- Resolution: Native resolution is 1024 x 768 pixels, which can be internally interpolated up to 1216 x 912 pixels (0.9 Megapixels)
- Lens: 3x optical zoom lens (f/2.0 max aperture) with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 37mm - 111mm. It advertises a "6x Precision Zoom" by combining the 3x optical zoom with a 2x digital zoom.
- Storage Media: 1.44 MB 3.5" floppy disk (holds about 3 to 5 images at maximum quality).
- Display: Rear 2.5-inch colour LCD screen with 84,000 pixels for framing and reviewing photos.
- Battery: Uses the Sony NP-F330 InfoLithium rechargeable battery pack.
