The Akai VC-30US Color Video Camera is an analogue single-tube colour portapack video camera released by the Akai Electric Company around 1980. It functions strictly as a camera head and was designed to tether directly into a separate portable video tape recorder (VTR) or portapack unit. It features a single-tube image sensor and an optical through-the-lens viewfinder.
Key Features:
- Image Sensor: Features a single vidicon-type imaging tube to capture colour signals.
- Camera Lens: Equipped with an f1.9 / 15-45 mm manual zoom lens.
- Viewfinder: Uses an optical, through-the-lens (TTL) viewfinder featuring a built-in diopter adjustment to fine-tune focus to the operator's eye.
- On-Body Controls: Outfitted with two primary manual switches located on the side panel for manual iris control and a sensitivity switch (High / Normal mode).
- Compatibility: Designed to pair with Akai portable VHS and portapack analogue video recorders.
- Detachable Cable: The unit requires a proprietary, detachable multi-pin umbilical cable plugged into the bottom of the housing.
- Power & Signal: This single cable carries power from an external master VTR or AC adapter while simultaneously feeding the video and audio signals back out to the recorder.
