2026-08-07 - Pentax Zoom 90 WR Camera

 

Released for sale in Europe and Asia in 1991, the Pentax Zoom 90 WR Camera is a fully automatic, weather-resistant 35mm point-and-shoot film camera. It was marketed in North America as the Pentax IQZoom 90-WR. Both cameras are known their robust, rubberized body, splash-proof design, and remarkably sharp 38-90mm zoom lens.

  • Lens: Pentax 38–90mm f/3.5–7.8 zoom lens (8 elements in 7 groups)
  • Weather Resistance: Splash-proof WR (weather resistant) design capable of handling rain, beach spray, or dusty environments (though not fully submersible)  
  • Focusing: Infrared autofocus with a minimum focus distance of 0.8m (2.6 feet) and a spot-AF mode
  • Shutter Speed: Ranges from 1/5 to 1/500 seconds, plus Bulb (B) mode for long exposures (up to 10 minutes).
  • Film Handling: Automatic loading, advancing, and rewinding DX-coded film reading from ISO 25 to 3200. Non-coded film defaults to ISO 25 (or ISO 100 on certain variations).
  • Mid-Roll Rewind: If you need to swap rolls before you are finished, there is a hidden button for manual mid-roll rewinding.
  • Battery: Powered by two CR123A batteries
  • Detachable Infrared Remote: Cordless IR remote control is clipped directly onto the side of the camera body. It allows you to trigger the shutter and adjust the zoom in three steps from afar.
  • Advanced Shooting Modes: Includes continuous drive shooting, multi-exposure mode, interval timer shooting (from 10 seconds to 60 minutes), and a multi-shot self-timer.
  • Macro Photography: A dedicated macro button automatically extends the lens to its maximum focal length, allowing a minimum focusing distance of roughly 0.5 to 0.8 meters.
  • LCD Display Panel: The top LCD screen clearly transmits crucial data including the frame counter, current battery status, selected flash modes, and focal lengths.
