Microfiche cards are flat, 4x6 inch sheets of transparent photographic film that store dozens of miniaturized document pages. They work by using high-reduction photography to shrink text and images onto a grid layout, requiring a specialized magnifying reader or scanner to project and enlarge the tiny frames back to a readable size. Evolving from 19th-century microphotography, microfiche became widely used in the 1960s by libraries, government bodies, and businesses to save physical storage space.
These cards are labelled ALTA FOODS ZONE 1 PRICE BOOK, and span from January 7, 1985 to March 1, 1987.
