The Imperial Reflex 620 Duo Lens is a plastic box camera manufactured by the Herbert George Co. of Chicago. Introduced around 1954, this camera is constructed from Bakelite plastic. Despite its Reflex and Duo Lens naming convention, the Imperial Reflex 620 is actually a pseudo-TLR (Twin Lens Reflex) camera. It is styled to mimic a high-end, professional twin-lens camera, but the upper viewing lens does not connect to a focusing mechanism. Instead, looking through the top hood reveals an oversized brilliant finder used strictly for waist-level frame composition. The camera features a fixed-focus lens and has no exposure controls.
Key Features:
- Type: Pseudo-TLR (the top lens is strictly for framing and does not connect to the taking lens's focus).
- Film Format: 620 roll film, producing twelve 2¼" x 2¼" (6×6 cm) square exposures per roll.
- Lens: Fixed-focus f/22 plastic meniscus lens.
- Shutter:, Single speed 1/50 second.
- Exposure Control: None; it relies entirely on a fixed point-and-shoot design.
- Viewfinder: Waist-level brilliant finder inside a pop-up hood.
- Flash System: Features side-mounted metal terminal prongs designed to clip into a proprietary, removable flashbulb unit.
